Congrats on a good shot
Looks like it was nice day with the water in the background. Was it a steep hike?

nice day
Howzit Ikestr?, yes it was a nice day, steep hike up through the lantana off trail. had one small billy earlier I could not shoot because he would have dropped to the water, so went up instead, trying to sneak but kicked some rocks loose and this nanny came over to investigate, 27 yard full pass through shot (that same arrow had killed one moose and one deer but lost it after the shot. if that nanny had rolled a littl further over the bushes she would have fallen another 100 feet. anyhow, she was tastey and didn't weigh too much to carry the meat back.

Re: Bow-hunting picture gallery II

A couple weeks back, I went down the Kalalau Trail, about 8 miles. The second stream past the 8-mile camp (the one with the Ape) has a herd of pigs established. It didn't take long for me to spot two moving my way down the valley. The first was a black boar perhaps 80 pounds. The second was a tan colored sow, maybe 70. I let the boar pass and made a good shot on the sow at 20 yards. The screemed spun around as though not knowing where to run, ran into a tree, and did a violent flopping fall down the steep wall eventually landing on the edge of the stream. I stuck her in the water to cool her off and continued on. 15 minutes later, I came across another pig milling around in the stream. I saw no others with the boar and took a 20 foot shot. I wasn't sure of the shot and watched him hobble away slowly until the arrow caught on a coffee tree and spun him to the side. Blood blew out the entry hole and I knew he wasn't going much further. He collapsed a moment later into the rocks. I stuck him in the stream and kept going. 30 minutes later at the back of the valley, I had the water go muddy but with poor visibility could not see the pig. I also thought I heard piglets making noise but never did see the pig. I gambled and went one way; she must have gone the other.
Nice pigs too, with fat on them. Heck of a pack out though. Big thanks to my friend who helped me. The boar I estimated at 2 years old. He had broken his top ivory and one tusk was hooking back. Kind of thin, the tusks. The sow was about 2 y/o and pregnant with her first litter of 7. They almost taste like store bought pork and just as tender. Anyway, the freezer is more than full again.
Here's the boar.

Also seen a bunch of goats in the morning but they were wary. The annual rifle season is coming around soon. I'm going in again either tonight or tomorrow morn to try some wind-erosion control near the watercress valley. Will try again for pigs.

Re: Bow-hunting picture gallery II
Here’s a few more from Na'pali coast. I shot a young billy 8 miles in and just after cleaning came across another herd. Shot a healthier looking nanny. Later that day, I was looking for pigs in Hanakoa and came across one, seemingly downwind of me, but it never spooked. I shot at it, about a 60 pounder but missed. I think my bow was canted and the arrow did a barrel role. Close call but the arrow was clean. Later, I was working around some grassy patches on a hillside and thought maybe I heard something down one way. So I worked my way in that direction and heard it for sure. Stalked closer to see a black pig in the bushes feeding on Guava. Stalked even closer, like 10 yards. By now it was around sunset and visibility was fading, especially in the understory. I drew back, checked the level on my sights, aimed well and shot right for the vitals. The shot was looking good until I heard the arrow strike twigs and deflect to god knows where. The black pig spun around alarmed but went right back to feeding. He worked uphill through some thick stuff and I backed back out to the grass opening, following him as he worked uphill, hoping he was coming out of the forest. I watched him through the leaves, following the sound whenever he disappeared. He worked uphill until popping out in the top corner of the grass broadside and walking in the open. I drew back crouched before rising up just high enough to get an arrow over the grass. Aimed and let one fly. WHACK! I saw an arrow stuck in his lower neck as he bolted along the edge of the forest. The arrow was sticking out and much blood was spurting out so right away I knew it would put him down. He ran full speed, despite a broken leg, full speed right into a dried up seisal tree. When he hit, it was like a train wreck and he only went a few feet more. 20 yards total. I waited for him to stop moving and walked over, called a friend for help, and eventually carried him back to camp. I think he weighed more than me. We hung the meat overnight and high tailed it home in the morning. Packed 50 pounds of meat in a daypack for 6 miles. Shoulders are sore.
Goat one.

Goats two after I realized I took no picture yet.

The boar. I thought maybe 120 gutted and 2 1/2 inch tusks. Nice meat too.

Here's a spit roast goat.
