Smooth bore shotguns are pretty good too. Buckshot for dense bush and runnign shots and foster slugs if you need longer shots or want to be more precise. 30-30 is also ideal size for pigs close up. It's the lighter of the 30 cals.

In my situations it was the bullets that failed the shot placement was spot on but the bullets failed to penetrate the boars pad and we found the bullets in the pad after skinning. Its not the cartridge's fault just bad bullets we had I LOVE THE 30-30!!!
