LifeStraw is a water filter which removes 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.9% of parasites and filters a up to 264 gallons of water. Time Magazine gave Lifestraw the "Best Invention of the Year" award in 2005.

LifeStraw water filters are designed for people living in developing nations and for distribution in humanitarian crisis. It was distributed in the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2010 Pakistan floods, and 2011 Thailand floods. In the Mutomo District in Kenya which has suffered from long term drought, the Kenya Red Cross supplied filters to 3,750 school children and 6,750 households.

The LifeStraw is a plastic tube 310 mm long and 30 mm in diameter. Water that is drawn up through the straw first passes through hollow fibers that filter water particles down, using only physical filtration methods and no chemicals. The entire process is powered by suction!
