IN MEMORY OF RICHARD DELIMA Empty IN MEMORY OF RICHARD DELIMA

My heartfelt condolences to the Delima family!!!  Richard Delima passed away yesterday. He had been battling an aggressive form of Leukemia that takes the lives of most people within a very short time after being diagnosed with such. Richard on the other hand went against the odds and lived for a couple of years after being diagnosed despite undergoing experimental types of treatment.
I've known Richard almost all of my life. There had been many hunts together, some that could never be copied and for most it will never be. Like the packs of dogs that we have ran through the mountains during the course of time, so has the many people that has hunted with him. In central Oahu, Richard Delima's name is synonymous with being a mentor for a lot of the braddahs in the hunting community like myself, and for those young and old. Till this very day, younger guys are under his wing like a mother hen protecting her chicks from the dangers of life, hopefully understanding that his LEGACY HAS BEEN LEFT IN THEIR HANDS, to pick up that torch of hunting and to run like hell to finish a race that has been so important to him. Despite his yelling, screaming, and cussing you out, you have to admit , that Richard was a bad ass hunter.
Richard I will miss you very much. Thank you for the memories, the friendship, the mentoring, the yelling and the screaming, and most importantly, being a  Sad brother hunter. Now is a time of grief and sorrow.

I hear ya kumu he will be missed. He could be difficult at times but like I said on my I.g he would always take you hunt. He took me on my first hog hunt here on Oahu in the late 80s when I was a f.o.p country boy looking to get into the mountain. He yelled at me cuz I couldn't keep up I never thought I would become a hog hunter but it was the times he would make you laugh when we were resting that made the hunt. Neva mind the 18 hour hikes and the 20 something dogs.. Lol.....and having to wash truck and carry dogs to the kennel so as to not dirty the sidewalk.. Lol yup I'll miss the ol  goat! The younger generation today havnt experienced the old blue hunts like there was before when trail blazing was the thing when getting in the grounds took 2 hours on ridge and sleep over night in the river. Dilema was famous for pushing the back. Now he will see all the old coons that have been waiting for him up there who knows he'll probably ask god if he like go hunt!
