tiny loc tracking system
Anybody heard of the tiny loc tracking system for dogs. A friend of mine read about it in the boar hunting magazine. Seems better than the garmin tracking sytem. The gps can supposedly tack up to 13.6 miles and also has a radio tracking sytem in the same collar that can track up to 35.4 miles. If you haven't heard of it check out at www.tinyloc.com and let me know what you guys think. Alohaz - Chad

Re: tiny loc tracking system
From what I have heard I would rather go with a Garmin for 3 reasons:
1: It doesn't have a map screen unless hooked up to a laptop
2: It is more expensive then a Garmin
3: Up until the beginning of this month it was only available in N.Z.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I only heard about it thru my friend and just briefly looked at the website. I didn't really care for it because it was more expensive than the garmin. I am currently running the garmin system with seven collars and can't go on a hunt without it. I am going to stay with the garmin but was just wondering what other people thought about the tinyloc. Thanks again for the input and HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!

Aloha Chad,
I was just wondering how you liked your garmin, and what the ups and downs to it were. I know some guys who don't like it even after they bought it, and are sticking with their Tracker units, and I know guys who love the garmin. I know guys who are running both the garmin and their trackers just to make sure. I am still undecided because I get equal input from both sides...!

Re: tiny loc tracking system
I use the garmin both for hunting and freediving. For hunting, its the best investment I've made besides buying my toyota truck. I don't think I have any bad input to say about it. The only problem that you might run into is the battery life on the collar. I have it on a 5 second update so the battery is supposed to last only 17 hours I believe. (don't quote me on it though, gotta look it up for sure) I do charge all my collars before every hunt so I never ran into a dead collar except once when I hunted an evening hunt then went back in the early morning on an all day hunt. Two collars were nearly dead when I got to the truck at around 5pm. Also when we hunt side trails on some steep ravines, the collars will loose reception from time to time but will update as soon as the satellite picks up the collars. In heavy brush it tends to cut out also but will update when the dog is in the clear. Other than that, I don't leave home without it. You know exactly where the dog is and what the dog is doing. I don't have to guess when I come around the corner and the dogs are not there where the dogs went. I don't cover ground that the dog has already covered, because on the map screen, it shows you the exact path the dogs took. You can tell if the dogs checked a particular side, mud hole or pocket. I have hunted deeper and explored first time places because not only does the system track your dogs, it has also tracks where you are in relation to the truck. So you never can or should get lost. I do carry an extra set of batteries for my handheld just in case!!! All in all I recommend the sytem to everyone and anyone but there are those who may beg to differ. Any other questions call me at 688-6939... Happy hunting!!!!
