best 4x4 suv for oahu

What do you guys think I am going to be buying a 4wd soon I was thinking about a 4 runner. Spending like 5 grand or something. I need it for fishing and 4x4 off road and in the mountians. Any opinions what I should be looking for?

what kind of off road you doing? Play kine or some serious trails? Jeeps are super customizable as far as lifts, articulation. Basically anything can be changed. only problem is if you want it to be secure you gotta buy a hard top. If you doing the not so rutted/hard trails then 4 runners are good. You might be able to find a lifted one already for around 5 grand. I like 4 runners.

I guess mostly "play" I want to go down the beach to go fishing instead of right there by the parking lot. I also want to explore some fireroads. Getting into hunting areas. I'm not sure where the 4x4ing is in oahu but I will be using it to acsess hunting areas. I am not going to be doing any "serious" 4x4'ing like speeding through whoops or the like or jumps and stuff. I am too old for that. I don't really know 4x4 areas on oahu which is why I am hoping somebody can tell me just how beefed up I need to get. I guess my question is "can a stock 4 runner handle the stuff I am talking about, or should I be looking for something heavier? I want to stay as far away from aftermarket stuff as possible too.

The 4-Runner should do you good if you want a covered bed, otherwise a older Jeep Renegade, or an early 80's Yota.

Yea seems so. Any years or features I should be looking out for in my search?

Also I want the 4 cyl. Is this too underpowered and it seems like almost everything on craigslist is 6cyl.
