Dogs
You can buy your main dogs or you can train um. If you buy um and they die your back at square 1. I wouldn't even consider buying a "main" dog if i didn't hunt with it. I've been training my pup for the last 1 1/2 years, with a lot of help from my friend and mentor. And only now he caught 2 medium sows and I don't think I could put a price on him because all the time I put in to him, I had him in the mountains from 3 months almost every other day til 1 year old. If you wanna do it right and learn how to do it for real, train your own, and raise all your own from no later than 8 weeks cause it makes all the diffrence. And as long as theres pigs you can always do it again. Strait up there is nothing harder than making your own dog from scratch. Best thing is buy the best blood you can get your hands on and go from there.

Buying puppies is okay if you have the time and patience to raise and train them. The downside is that not all pups out of a proven breeding will "turn out". I'm not saying that there hasn't been any litters where all the pups "turned out", because I'm sure there are litters where all the pups "turned out". It is rare to see a proven breeding produce multiple litters where 100% of the pups "turn on". I think this is true for show and hunting dogs(no matter what game you chase). And yes, starting from scratch is the hardest, but most rewarding. Been there, done that.
I think it's still possible to get a decent young or mature dog without getting ripped off. If a buyer is interested in a dog, he should go on a hunt with the owner and dog(if at all possible) or at least be allowed a week or two to tryout the dog. Some agreement should be made before money changes hands. For example, half of the asking price is paid upfront. The buyer can try the dog for 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks, the buyer either pays up the other half and keeps the dog, or returns the dog and gets his "deposit" back. I don't think any LEGIT hunter/seller would have a problem refunding the money if a dog doesn't perform as advertised, regardless if it's $100, $1000 or more in some cases. But if the dog gets hurt or lost or killed, consider the dog sold.
Bottom line:BOTH buyer and seller MUST have honesty and integrity.

I think the miscommunication is actually a difference in opinion. People voicing there opinion like theirs is the only way. That will definitely get everyone else started. Think about this, do you still feel the exact same way about your hunting techniques today as you did five years ago? Will you feel the same way in five years from now? There will probably be a little change in time to come. So why bicker? Unless, you know everything there is to know and experienced everything there is to experience. Than i guess you can argue your point because you know it all!

oh yah!
I'm the one who posted ''looking for an ace'' a while back. I was looking for a dog to help my pups. I ended up picking up an ok dog that is working out for me. The dog i got was not an ace when i got her but she does help my pups and i am happy with the dog. I also agree, I believe an ace is made and not bought because with everyones own preferences one guys ace may not be the next guys ace. But to avoid all this bickering should i have posted ''Looking for an okay dog''

I'm sorry my bradah, I wasn't directing my post towards you. Jus anyone in general who is arguing or offended because of a difference in opinion. And I'm not trying to offend anyone at that jus trying to give another way for people to look at a difference of opinion than to be offended or upset.
