Is this a good deal?
Is this a good deal? This is an ad I seen.
"Bear Element right hand compound bow with Trophy Ridge sight and
arrow rest, comes with hard case. Mint condition. Asking $425 obo"
I know nothing about this bow. I just wanted your guys input before I call him about it. Thanks.

In my opinion, save your money for a Mathews. But that specific bow is pretty good, my friend shoots one at 50# and it does the job.

Kauai808,
As long as it is in, or adjustable to Your draw length and at a comfortable weight range for you. Tuned well it will definately get the job done, plus all the accessories it sounds pretty good at a fair price. I personally would have to physically see it though. Check for hairline cracks on the bows limbs or any finish splitting along the length of it. String wear etc, just to get some insight as to how abused or not it is , you know "the basics".
Other than that the ad itself sounds promising and at a price that wont break the bank.
B.I.Hunter does make a good point though. This stuff is addicting! Before you know it your on-line looking, researching about the newest, best, fastest etc and find yourself wanting to upgrade after only a few weeks of owning a bow. Not good from the wifeys point of view However, If your not one for the latest
bells and whistles then I think it seems good. Every commercially made bow can get the job done no matter what the grade, it's just some do it faster and more quietly.

Ok thanks guys. I'm getting a little tax return so I might go to island archer since I'm going Oahu this weekend.

Island Archer will try and talk you into a Martin ready to shoot package. It would not be a bad thing if you took thier advice, whatever it may be.
I would like to ask you though... Have you considered traditional archery? You could pick up a very nice vintage Bear, or Damon Howatt recurve bow for less than half the price you are talking.

Yeah I would love to use a recurve bow. I think I'm gonna go with a compound first then maybe get a recurve. It looks like fun.

Sounds like a plan. That's what I did. I now own three recurves and hardly ever shoot the "wheel bow" any more.
