Mauna Kea & Kaohe closing

Forestry will close Mauna Kea forest reserve & Kaohe Game Management for three months starting June 4 due to lack of rain

Well I guess we need to look at the Positive. With the current drought, at least the Palila birds will most likely not mate. No palila= choke sheep on MK. Also the sheep will not get pounded by hunters during the rut.

The sheep are inside Parker Ranch. Saw some herds the past week and a half. Most sheep I've seen!!!

I heard about this from my friend Jon last weekend. Too bad. I hope the drought ends soon. It's already affected the game birds & turkeys up there. If the sheep stay concentrated in a relatively small area too long, the overgrazing will be bad for the habitat and could lead to more "cull" shoots.

we need some rain up on the mountain, everything is so dry & brown up there.

I ran my dogs yesterday and as I drove through the area I noticed the grass is beyond brown already it is grayish! Kinda crazy looking!
