puppies

Question, just wondering at what age would you seperate the mother dog from the pups?? I have pups that were born on Feb 2nd which now makes them 4 weeks old. They are eating solids on their own already but I havent seen them drinking water on their own yet. The mom is really reluctant on jumping back into the puppy kennel when i let her out to stretch her legs. I want to seperate her from the pups already but am not quite sure if its a good idea. Any recommendations??

I usually dont wean em till 5 weeks at the earliest but the longer they with the mom the healthier they are... If they not drinking water yet feed em the puppy food with goats milk or baby formula....they'll be drinking water sooner than u think.... But once they start eating food on there own you can wean em off already...but you should be fine to take the mom away already this week..shoots!!!!

Raja that my bruddah. Thanks. Yeah the pups eating dry dog food with can puppy food mixed with goats milk and doing really good. Kinda just want to seperate them already cause mom getting all raw and is very reluctant on jumping back in the kennel when i let her out.... but thanks again for the input

Do you got a place where she can escape the pirahnas if she needs to Chad? As long as she's not roughing um up or just plain killing pups I recommend leaving her with them until 6 weeks at the earliest before complete seperation. You can start removing her for short periods now (While they eat) and progressively make these periods longer!

Yeah I did, I have a piece of 1"x12" that runs across the width of the kennel so mom can hide on the other side towards the door of the kennel. But these smart-ass (lol) pups are so resilient that they use each other like a stepping stool and climb right over... Mom was starting to bear her teeth at the pups and earlier today I heard and saw her snap a little at the pups when she had enough. This is her third litter so she knows what to do but this is the first time I saw her get restless with the pups... I put her in a kennel right next to the pups and proly will put her with the pups under close supervision whenever possible. Been thinking about this batch of pups for a while now, so want to take all precautions that I dont loose any... Thanks again for your advice.
