Re: what is this fish
Thanks, I saw one site that called it "leatherback jack"
I will have to check some books. I think I ate one of these once.

There is very little meat on them but the skin is very shiny and great for making lures. I used to use the skin to make inserts when I made big game lures back in Kona. I have had some success slow trolling them for Marlin also, but I don't think I ever tried to eat one.

Oh, by the way Jeff. Great choice of lures. The Kastmaster is the greatest lure ever invented. I often pose this question to other fishermen... if you were to be stranded near a body of water (could be saltwater, or fresh you don't know) at anyplace in the world, and got to choose one single lure to use and that was the only lure you had, what would it be?...

Now I just might try that. Is Do you recomment a website or anything. One thing is for sure. I will never eat anything out of the ala wai.
I was catching tilapia one day and this kid comes up to me and says where is my catch. I tell him I throw everything back. He tells me his uncle cooks tilapia all the time from here. I told him he should never eat these fish.
There is a guy that takes samoan crabs from there too and I'm pretty sure he eats them.
I am going for papio and barracuda with lures. I tried to dunk a tilapia after my kid caught it last night but it died and the crabs got it.

Re: what is this fish
Got a 18 inch or so barracuda to come after the castmaster today. I had reeled it in most of the way and when I saw it going for the bait my heart started racing and I pulled so hard on the pole that the kastmaster flew out of the water and got stuck to the dock. I also dunked another tilapia but lost it again to a bad knot.
Any pointers on how to land my barracuda?
thanks in advance for any ideas.
