PUREBRED OR WONDERBRED

Hypothetical question-
If for some reason we weren't able to cross breed dogs to achieve the certain traits and characteristics of what we feel we need in a good hog dog and was allowed to CHOOSE ONLY ONE purebred strain of dog what would yours be? Why?

The wolf is the original "Purebred" but if I could choose between the breeds available today I would go with a Catahoula or a Ridgeback. As far as why, They were both bred for the purpose of working big game. I believe the reason we're having to "build designer dogs" is because the conformation and breed standards set by "dog experts" are causing the erosion of breeds by breeding for these certain looks they have bred out the valued traits in order to reproduce these standards causing us to have to rebuild and hone each necessary skill in order for them to be able to successfully hunt. I can get VERY deep into dogs so I will just leave it at that!

I don't know...probably one Dogo Argentino. Just because they're big, solid grabbers and they get nose to find pig too and that's my style of hunting. Kinda like one pointer X bull or airedale X bull. Find'em, grab'em and stab'em

Tai ridge back the oldest hunting breed on the planet they have been used in Tai land for hunting for 1000s of years they are know to hunt kill and retrieve big game they are know for there stamina and loyalty weight 50 to 70 lbs 20 to 27 inches at the sholders

If had to choose it would have to be hungarian vizsla........ speed, cold and hot track,smarts,courage,strength, and the best thing they are multi game hunters, bird,hog,deer,rabit u name it

Just to settle my curiosity Maukakane, what breed would you pick?

The subtle individual differences within a genetically "fixed" or purebred line. Example- German shepherd for police work. Not every purebred G.S.D. is cut out to perform all required tasks of police protection, search and rescue, tracking , bite control/grip etc, even though they are bred to do this. Some are naturally outstanding and others dont make the cut.

Having said that my choice would be the West Siberian Laika, but it would have to be one that leans towards the rougher side of the individual degree variation. Maybe "rough" is the wrong choice of words.
Heart or grittiness I guess is what I'm trying to say.

i would have to hunt heelers if i could only choose one breed.

for me my braddahs would be between da Weimaraner, American foxhound, or german shorthaired pointers. thats my three picks if i had 2 pick a purebreed 2 hunt cause they all around dogs.
