Re: Photography?
Yea it isn't the camera it is the photographer. My old roommate was a photographer. He wanted to photograph us surfing at log cabins. He said he could use the cheap kind of camera, the disposable one would work fine. Too bad I was too cheap to buy the camera. I would have some sick pics. But here is one surfing one I have.

Thank goodness for camera phones.
The quality is low, but the feeling is there.

There is a nice tripod on www.camofire.com. Expensive but real nice. Carbon fiber so it would be light enough to take on hunts.

Re: Photography?
I just got back from a 2 week long belated honeymoon to the mainland. We drove 3700 miles through 10 states-Ilinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska. Here are a few pics of just some of the critters we saw.....
Pronghorn
A pair of bull Elk
A pair of Mule Deer Bucks
Bison Bull
And finally, a Mountian Goat Billie. I put the sneak on him and got within 10 yards, then ghosted him for 20 minutes while he fed along a ridge.
Along with these we saw lots of whitetails, bison, and antelope, mule deer, cow elk, rabbits, squirrels, chipmonks, ground hog, prairie dogs, Bald Eagles, Whopping Cranes, and watched an Osprey get harrassed by a sparrow. It was a great trip.

nice pics Maui - if I got to see wildlife like that up close I would feel it was a great trip too. Must have been a blast. Any of those critters on huntable public land? If so, then if I were you, I'd be puttin in for tags and going back.
Mahalos for postin the pics.

The elk were less than a 1/4 mile out of the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park in the Roosevelt Nat'l Forest in Colorado. Don't know if that was huntable, but I think it was. The mountain goat was in the Black Hills Nat'l Forest, but also right on the border with Mt. Rushmore.
If anyone is ever in the Mt. Rushmore area, be sure to drive the Wildlife Loop Road in Custer State Park early in the morning. We started it a half hour after sunrise and saw critters at every turn. Of everywhere we went, that place had the most variety of animals in the smallest area, and everything was right off the road--whitetail, mule deer, bison, pronghorn, and wild donkeys, not to mention the prairie dogs, rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs, ducks, hawks, and other birds. Also, one guy at a visitors center told me that I missed seeing 7 Rocky Mtn Bighorn sheep by a few minutes. It was probably the best 20 odd miles of the whole trip.
I did get some info on hunting Colorado, but I want to look into Wyoming more. We saw hundreds of antelope there. Seemed like every minute or two we were passing a samll group, or a single speed goat doing his thing......I've had antelope onthe brain ever since.

antelope on the brain
You and me both brah, my problem is I not only got antelope on the brain (been dyin for years to sit in a blind at a waterhole someday with my bow), but I also got elk on the brain, sheep on the brain, hogs on the brain, deer on the brain, goats on the brain, and lately moose on the brain again, since my meat mission season is fast approaching. Building my cabin and all Seems I got so little budget and so little time, if I was single I'd be travelin all da time and whackin and stackin em, but got more constraints these days with the ohana. (very happily so), congrats on the honeymoon trip- isn't that what you did?
your road trip and wildlife viewing sounds awesome- with pictures to prove it. I drove through WY one time and my pick up broke down in Laramie- OMG they got choke antelope there- never did hunt em yet and that was literally 20 years ago. The locals have a goal to kill 2 antelope with one shot from high power rifle- they wait for 2 to line up on last day of season and drill through the first one to get two- it was perfectly legal back then to do that and I saw 3 different guys on last day that got 2 with one shot- tons of speed goats there fo sho if they doing that kind of thing so commonly. Really want to go for elk in CO with bow too, but these days stickin with the winter trip to Kauai for hogs n goats, it's workin for me and I just love the pork. dreamin of a kudu, gemsbok and warthog too though. I admit too much big game on my brain. I sometimes get drawn for dall sheep tags, and occasionally get caribou and mt goats, so certainly cannot complain. Plenty BT deer on my home island, but I'm hopin to go after an axis one of these times I come back to HI, and a feral sheep ram too some day. I love the warm weather break at the tail end of a cold AK winter. TGIF, have a great weekend.
