sting rays
im stationed in kaneohe bay on the marine base and they have a pier that you can fish off of. i usually use squid and salmon bellys and shrimp for bait but all i catch is baby hammerheads but one night i saw a guy land 3 huge stingrays at least 35lbs i have hooked 2 before on squid and they broke my line but there must be a better bait that i can use to catch these rays does anyone know what the best bait for stingrays is and where i can come by some. thanks

Re: sting rays
Clayton, Ika, or squid is a good bait for Rays. Just make sure it's fresh. There is much better stuff to go after swimming around there though. Very good Papio and O'io fishing in the bay. Check into the boat rentals there. Better fishing if you can get out in a boat.

O'io is Bonefish. Papio is the Ulua (Trevally) when it is small. Both are popular gamefish in Hawaii because they fight mean. You have much to learn little grasshopper. lol. seriously fishing in Hawaii is very unique in many ways. The most important thing is to learn how to properly tie knots and go from there. If you can tie a good Palamar, snell, and improved clinch, I can show you all the rigs for whipping, dunking, slide bait, etc.
