The Battle Of Midway was the turning point of the war in the Pacific. It is one of the largest naval battles in history, and resulted in a victory for the allies. The United States destroyed 4 Japanese aircraft carriers which were crucial to the japanese fleet. without these carriers the japanese couldnt launch air offensives from sea and were limited to air operations within a certain diameter of their air fields. In addition to the aircraft carriers, the united states also destroyed a cruiser and downed about 250 japanese aircraft. The crippled japanese fleet could do very little to prevent american marines from island hopping their way closer and closer to the japanese homeland
