Lanai Archery Mouflon
Howsit everybody,
anybody hunting the upcoming archery mouflon season on Lanai? Or has hunted it before? I just wanted some info so I'll be better prepared for it. Some of my friends hunted the rifle season last year and said the animals were pretty spooky and hard to get close to, but when I visited Lanai pre-rifle season I could easily stalk within 10 yards of ewes. So I basically want to know this-
-How spooky are the animals?
-Is it really crowded w/ hunters during the short week or archery hunting?
-How much sheep are in the Lapaiki/Awalua area? Do I have a good chance of getting at least one sheep?
-My friends tell me that sheep meat is junk...has anyone found a good way to cook it or should I just bring it home to Maui to feed it to my dogs?
Mahalo if anyone can help me out! -Jess

Yep--the sheep meat is junk....you need to send it ALL to ME..... Actually, the mouflon meat is excellent. Its my favorite over venison, goat or pig. Of course, good taste is always in how you handle the meat after you harvest. Keep it clean, cool it quickly, trim the fat off before you eat, don't overcook it, and enjoy.

Save me the ribs! Straight off the spine onto the grill, unreal-good. Like big daddy Adventure said and I agree, mouflon meat tops the others. JMO.
Good luck that's all it is lucky luck, with a little experience.

mouflon is the best of the local sheep we have! if its because of the game taste try cook it with rosemary, alot of people in the mainland use it to cook, helps take away the game taste! i tried from black pepper. olive oil with rosemary, she go, or of course teriaki style. catch one skinny sow to feed to your dogs! haha

Thanks guys, now Im super excited to try it! If I get one Ill definitley try marinating it and cooking it with rosemary/oliveoil/pepper. For some reason I heard "if you cook a mouflon and a shoe, you eat the shoe first" who ever told me that had to have gotten some stink old ram or something lol. Can't wait to see and taste some new game!

Add a little garlic powder and red wine in your marinade....
