turkey joe's turkey

Took a nice tom yesterday! He was the boss, ruling part of Mauna Kea over three others. I popped him at 12 yards. Scouting did the trick. I got uphill of the roost area and found a spot 40yds from where the hill flattened out. It took a while for the big daddy to make his way to the bottom of the slope and decide to come uphill. He came into view gobbling hard, and kept coming. He headed straight to me and veered right at 12 yards. (this is where he walks out of camera frame...the buggah!) He cut a hard right, looking right at me, (major cramp holding my gun up and still). After a bit, he kept heading to my right. He gave me an open lane in the grass...and boom.

He weighed 17.25# and had an 11" beard. A real nice bird.

Hey hows the birds doing over in makua? What are the draw backs or reasons we just dont bring 300 birds over to Oahu to populate? could you shed some light on this?
