Treestand cheat card
Gang,
At lunch I calculated a little cheat sheet of sorts to help with aiming out of a treestand. You all know, that when elevated, you have to aim a little low. I made a conversion chart that has the ranged distances running down the left edge. I know there's a lot of range finders that will do this automatically, but in case you don't have one, like me, this should help.
Across the top are 3 common stand heights. If yours is different you'll have to interpolate from the chart. The three colums of bolded numbers are the ranges you should shoot.
So, if you're 20ft up and you range a target at 10yds, (from you to the target) shoot like it's a 7yd shot. There's some rounding, so .5 or more, I rounded up; .4 or less I truncated the number.
15ft 20ft 25ft
10yd 9 7 6
12 11 10 9
14 13 12 11
16 15 15 14
18 16 17 16
20 19 19 18
22 21 21 20
24 24 23 23
26 26 25 25
28 28 27 27
30 30 29 29
35 35 34 34
40 40 39 39
Sorry about the formatting, I couldn't make the columns line up. I did the calculations in feet and converted some to yards. Square the ranged distance and subtract the squared stand height. Find the square root of the remainder and divide by 3 to get the distance in yards.
