The 2010 MotorGuide BASS Electric Convention proved to be a serious challenge for many of the country’s best fishers when they took to the water at Queensland’s Lake Cania.

Sixty eight bass experts took part and delivered 54 bass to the scales over the two days, but the best performers were well rewarded with three MotorGuide electric trolling motors given away as prizes.

The main frustration was an over-supply of small fish which had to be thrown back. However smart fishing from Bundaberg basser Shane Anderson (2/2, 1.64kg) saw him win Day One, tempting some big bass that were actively feeding in the shallows.

A different strategy worked on Day Two, with Ricky Simmons (1/1, 1.05kg) fishing a flooded grass point where the bass were holding.

For their efforts, each man won a new MotorGuide electric trolling motor and a Blue Fin 3.75 aluminium Jon Boat to put them on.

A third MotorGuide/Blue Fin package was given away by random draw, with Jason Shepardson the lucky winner.

When the fishing was over, David Trinder once again secured the number one ranked BASS Electric Angler title for the second straight year.

“The 2010 MotorGuide BASS Electric Convention is a fantastic way to end the season - the pinnacle of the sport – and it was great to see the competitors really having to pull out all the stops this year,” said Nicholas Webb, Mercury’s Director of Marketing.
