Foster and Partners has designed a new building in the City of London almost next door to the Lloyds Register of Shipping.

Designed for developer Shieldpoint 78 Ltd, the scheme will be a 16 floor largely office scheme with a small amount of retail space standing at 76-86 Fenchurch Street on the southern side.

There will 29,939 square metres of office space on the upper floors within plus a further 2,639 square metres of retail space on the ground, basement, mezzanine and first floor.

The design features what is essentially a solid polished black granite and glass block with an almost wholly glass four floor level standing above it. In massing terms this resembles a box on a box in a similar manner to Plantation Place and helps reduce the bulk of the building when seen from street level. There are likely though to be concerns from some that dark granite will have too oppressive an effect on the street.

Originally plans were floated for a building as tall as 26 storeys when initial feasibility studies were carried out but this has since been designed down to 77.3 metres, in part thanks to the modest height of the existing modern office buildings on Fenchurch Street

Aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War, he was a leader of American nationalists calling for a new Constitution; he was one of America's first constitutional lawyers, and wrote most of the Federalist Papers, a primary source for Constitutional interpretation. Hamilton was the primary author of the economic policies of the George Washington Administration, especially the
