HELP!!! MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS!
HOWZIT O'AHU HUNTERS,
DLNR HAS MADE CONTACT WITH OPHA (OAHU PIG HUNTER ASSOCIATION) AND REQUESTED OUR ASSISTANCE IN FINDING MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS. HE HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE SATURDAY. OPHA HAS A PROGRAM THAT I HEAD SPECIFICALLY FORMED TO ASSIST WITH MOUNTAIN RESCUES. NOBODY KNOWS THE MOUNTAINS BETTER THAN US HUNTERS. WHAT WE NEED IS VOLUNTEERS THAT ARE FAMILIAR WITH PEACOCK FLATS TO ASSIST IN THIS EFFORT. I MYSELF HAVE NEVER HUNTED UP THERE SO AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE WORK CLOSELY WITH DLNR ON THIS AND NOT JUST TRY AND DO IT ON OUR OWN. IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THIS AREA OR KNOW A HUNTER THAT IS AND WANT TO HELP PLEASE CONTACT ME (DANTON) AT 258-7982. ALSO, PLEASE PRAY FOR "ARE" (THE MISSING HIKER).
1. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US HUNTERS TO HELP AS NOBODY KNOWS THE MOUNTAINS BETTER THAN US.
2. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO GIVE THE GENERAL PUBLIC A BETTER IMAGE OF US.
3. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO IMPROVE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DLNR.
4. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CLUB MEMBER TO HELP.
5. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT KUAOKALA HAS BEEN CLOSED EVER SINCE THE BIN LADIN THING. DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF IT'S STILL CLOSED? IT IS BELIEVED THAT "ARE" WENT UP THROUGH DILLINGHAM/NORTH SHORE SIDE.
MAHALO,
DANTON

Re: HELP!!! MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS!
Right on Munsta,
I knew I could count on you. I talk to you bumby. Spoke with Ted Lunasco (his dad already spoke with him and he made some phone calls as well) and Sean Peragil who are both pretty familiar with the area and willing to help.
I will keep you all posted as to when and where we will meet with DLNR as soon as I get that info.
Mahalo,
Danton

Re: HELP!!! MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS!
John Santos Jr. Should be calling after work today Danton. Maybe we can set up with the state a timeline to get some hunters in the search alot sooner in the future. It would help when it comes down to tracking footprints. I'm sure they can get a few of us in on the first search when the mountain is fresh.
Ill be calling you this evening. Thanks for what you are doing.

Re: HELP!!! MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS!
Yup Rajah Dat, the sooner the better the signs are a lot easier to follow and track. I am camping just below mount Kaala and we had a good shower yesterday. Things like that can hamper the sign but at least we have the opportunity to show that we hunters are upstanding citizens. Always willing to lend a helping hand, knowledge and expertise when it comes to things like this.
Good to see us hunters come together and help out in times if need!

Re: HELP!!! MISSING HIKER UP PEACOCK FLATS!
Sorry for the late update but phone was acting up.
Anyway I found out that they will be using dogs tomorrow because of this they didnt want too many people around to throw off the dogs. So if nothing turns up with the dogs then they asked if the hunters would be willing to help find the missing hiker. Also found out that last contact was at the kealia trail Kuaokala road junction. The group was heading back down the trail at the end of the day when they became separated.
Also trying to coordinate a key for access from dillingham side Nike road. I keep you posted!
Sorry Danton didn't wanna call you this late hope you don't mind me posting the info.

missing hunter
Munsta, thanks for not calling me at 11 last night. I was dreaming about hunting and lately that's as close as I been getting to actually hunting. I'm glad you posted the update and it lines up with what I have recently been told. Had Mr. Mom action for take care of this morning, a meeting with my youngest boy's principal (not my fault....its his mother's fault!!), and then a work meeting and this is the 1st chance I had to get to my computer so good you had post that update. Mahalo.
I am now being told that the DLNR will be contacting me directly to schedule this thing and I am waiting for that call. I let you guys know as soon as I know.

update
Just got off the phone with Ollie and here's the latest. He went to meet his contact this morning at Dillingham and they didn't show.
The person who was supposed to contact him about the time tomorrow has not contacted him.
We don't know the results of the dog search today.
I think the website Koai'e posted and the information Munsta provided is our best shot at getting some direction if you are still interested in helping. Mahalo Koai'e and Munsta.
I know some hunters were standing by ready to help and willing to go. It's kinda lame for them to leave us hanging like this as I know some hunters were ready to take off from work. I have no other information then what Ollie has given me and I have passed on to you. Thanks for your willingness to help.

I just got off the phone with Munsta. The person who is organizing the search will be at the Dillingham airfield tomorrow morning (Friday) at 6:30 am. They will discuss the game plan with the hunters before heading out. For those who are still interested in participating and are able to make it you can meet Munsta there.
Thanks everybody and sorry for all the confusion.... I just was telling you guys what was being told to me.

Be Safe
Howzit Munsta,
I just came back from there little while ago. I had shoot 'um down one fast one for see if I could spock you guys from the parking lot or something then I had to come back to work. The security said I had just miss you guys by about 45 minutes. Das some serious cliffs over there and I give the hunters who frequent that area credit. I heard you even gotta pack water for the dogs!!
Anyway, be safe guys and keep us posted.

Update!!!
Howzit All,
Just wanted to give an update about our efforts today, Sorry so late just got home not too long ago!!!
First of all I would like to give a big Mahalo to Bradda Pok Mahuka and Bradda Ohai for coming out today and searching.
We met with some of those that were present the day of Are's dissappearance. We got some info from them about the events that took place that day and about area's that had been previously searched. We then went up and started at the point where he was last seen and trying to think about where he mightve gone from there. And truthfully he could have gone alot of places but we tried to think about certain things he may have done if he had done several things that could have gotten him off track. We checked a gulch that that didnt have any search flags in it and found some old tracks that would be consistent to when he went missing. We followed this trail which was very sparse at times and we had to pull out all da stops to keep on the trail as some places were staright up rocks and shelfs and cliffs. We were pumped because it was pretty consistent with what could be expected if he had chosen this area as a cut short to get back to Kealia Trail. But once we tracked the sign up and over the ridge we began crossing alot of sign from searches conducted previously and kinda lost the trail here. This was pretty late in the day and we called it a day and sweeped the gulch back up to the road. Sadly we didnt find him but we covered alot of ground and put forth great effort.
Hope to have more huntaz out there this weekend I know its usually when we hunt but if you can make it it would be greatly appreciated. They usually meet at 6:30am at dillingham airfield by the tower parking lot near the Kealia Trail trailhead. I have something to do in the morning but probably be back up there after that.
Mahalo to those who have helped out and provided info etc to get this done.
Mahalo Again,
Bradda Muns
