Smokehouse Designs
I NEED to build a smokehouse and want some inspiration. Can you guys post some pics showing some ideas. It can be yours, your neighbors, a friend, relative, WHATEVAS. I've seen some simple ones and some fancy ones but I want to hear what works for you guys. I've heard outside firebox is betta, so what you think?
Re: Smokehouse Designs
Funny you should mention it, i'm getting ready to build one on the ship this week.
We have a few new 55 gallon drums that had some gasoline in them but are clean. I'm planning on needing 2, one for the meat, and one cut in half and welded to it for the smoke box. Wood and charcoal mixed. you have to watch out what kind of products were stored in the drums. Gas is ok cause you can clean it, then get the drum up to 400 degress to remove all traces....gas burns off pretty quick. Then clean the inside and coat with vegetable oil. You might be able to get drums that are brand new. I know a place on Oahu that sells them. It's called Safepro out in Campbell industrial.
I've been doing a lot of research and here's a good website on the topic:

Here's a commercial one that I plan on copying:

I have an electric one from cabelas but it's not as good as a wood/charcoal model.

Re: Smokehouse Designs
This is my smokehouse I have been using for many years. It's a simple deal, just an old double door locker that I welded some racks in. To do a hot smoke I just put the wood inside the smoker and for a cold smoke wood goes on the side. Also, some pictures of a batch my family and I made the other week.
Our Boys getting the meat ready to hang.
Hanging the meat.
Ready to close up the smoker.
Got Smoke?
Done Deal.
Bagged and ready to share with family and friends.
