Says he killed a cape buffalo with a spear.
Don't even know how to respond to that.
Maybe Crazy is the word.

Howzit Honu Ea! I watched the video you posted and got interested so I did a search for it and came across atlatl.com where you can buy one with aluminum darts or if you like spend the money they make authentic darts and atlatls outta wood. Seems like a cool new toy to practice with!

atl atl & spear hunting
Up here in my remote Alaskan village, I had seen a reconstructions of old atl atl that was supposed to have been used around here historically for seals and bears. it was interesting and the handle had a round smooth thumbhole- the arrow/spear they launch are longer and the handle part just enables the power stoke of the swing to extend further rapidly and really launch the projectile. I never used one though, that was cool stuff on that spearhunter guy, impressive.
I'm way interested in hunting with a spear - so hey Maui Rhino, glad to hear I'm not alone. If I had ready access (like in Hawaii somewhere) to hogs that come regular to a feeder, I'd get up a tree really close and then launch a spear at one's vitals - I think that a guy would stand as good a chance as any to succeed while trying that. Alaska does not allow use of spears for hunting. Though an ancient passage to manhood up here for some tribes was to go use a wooden spear as a boy and kill a bear as it emerges from it's den. Only few young men were selected by the chief to do this and if a woman heard about the plan or saw the spear then it was doomed to fail. I have read a few accounts of this same concept in Alaskan memoir books. I'd really dig getting a fat boar with a spear. wish I was over there more often to try it.Thanks for attaching the cool web links and videos. I think it is nuts to go for a lion or cape buffalo with a spear- but certainly something that would get the adrenalin pumping if you survive, I was planning to try for a black bear a few years ago, but would have done it from the relative safety from up a tree over a salmon stream or something.
aloha braddahs,
