hunting on post.
Y'all can probably tell from my tag Im a soldier. So Im looking to see if anybody is interested in helping kill some of these monster boars we have on Schofield Barracks and East Range. Im willing to sponsor a crew of bowhunters to hunt on post. We are starting to get overrun with these critters. if anybody is up for it send me a pm and I'll let you know what we gotta do.

MAHALO!!!
My roommate and a friend told me that its possible but I never new where to start. I have worked on schofield for the past three years and will soon be going to wheeler for the next job. I see tons of trucks with hunting decals but never had a chance to ask them about this. much mahalos again for the info and hope to do some hunting with you soon. A hunting club sounds like a great idea too.

yeah. a hunting club here would serve some good purpose here. if anyone knows some troops, bring this up. for me personally I would like to give troops an alternative to getting hammered downtown and pissing the locals off.

Re: hunting on post.
Howzit m16a2soldier i'll pm you some info as I did classes/presentations about hunting for the military hoping for the same thing as youre talking about. Goodluck its a worthy cause as ive found out through the presentations nI did that theres alot of hunters in the military but once they get here they dont have a connection per se to the local hunting community etc or some kind of club that can help them once over here.

Re: hunting on post.
Very Newbe here,
Thanks for the invite, I would love to go. I have been wanting to get me a pig for several years now, just haven't been in the right areas. Unfortunately, I just arrived on Oahu and have to wait for my bow to arrive from the mainland. (Hopefully it won't take to long.) Just some quick questions before it does:
1. How much is a hunting lisc. for Oahu and can you just buy it at Wallyworld?
2. Is there any specific seasons for pig and goat?
3. Is hunting restricted to the weekends on the base?
4. Do you have to take a class from the military before you are allowed to hunt on it? (Have had to do this for several military installations hunts?
5. Do you need to check in/out with anyone? (Range Warden, MP, gate guard) (Been there, done that too.)
Have been trying to do a bunch of research for hunting on Oahu and just recently came across you site. (Only because I googled "Oahu Taxidermy") This has been great news finding out that there a quite a few of us that hunt and I love all the pic's that are posted! Can't wait to get my shipment!

Re: hunting on post.
hey big dad just to give you some answers, All you need to hunt on post is a military sponsor that has a valid hunting lic from the state of hawaii, as far as i know you dont have to take a special class for the base, You do have to check in with the provost marshal and range control to hunt also the days are limited....as long as the range is not slotted for training then youll be okay, you cant hunt with a firearm but you can use bows dog and knives and spear...yea i know funy huh spears!!! as for the areas i think only kunia side of kole kole and east range are the places they allow hunting .
You set it up and Ill gide through the areas but with dog and knive, Had another guy on here wanting to go also when he came back from deployement .....I dont know if he hes back but I would be more than happy to show you around the mountains up there...pm me your info and we can set it up

Re: Hunting on post
I used to have a hunting party registered on post, It is really not hard, except you must have a military or Army civilian sponser to register a hunting party. The hunting party cannot have more then 5 hunters and you can pretty much hunt any kine except gun (as stated). The hunting is only on weekends and only if the training area is not being used for military training. I used to get called every weekend to hunt Dillingham airfield and saw some pigs there, but they went missing and I heard that someone was poaching out there and never saw nothing again. I have the phone number to the game warden still and can check to see if details have changed. PM me if you want more details. Steve

Re: Hunting on post
I know there are tons of pigs on Schofield and East Range, the problem was that there is always some sort of training going on, so you never get called to hunt it. I had my hunting party registered on post for 2+ years and didn't get called to hunt anything except Dillingham. I'm not for sure, but I think the game wardens were keeping the good stuff for themselves.

Ive heard alot of the same from other hunters. does seem like the game warden is pulling some shady deals here.

If you are referring to the State of Hawaii Hunter Education Class, you can go as a standby. Get there early (about 3 PM) to get a "low number" on the list. Standbys are admitted as registered students fail to show.
