Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Aloha Babooze, I did the mount myself and contemplating on doing it as a buisness on the side to make a little extra cabbage to help pay da bills. I am still trying to figure out if it would be worth it and was wondering if hunters would be willing to send thier game off island to get it mounted. I know most of you probably have used the same taxidermist for years and its hard to go to someone else.

Axis mount
Holy smokes Ramboar, that's one cherry mount! Awesome job on the fine detail all around, eyes, veins, muscles! Sweet Brah- you got it down. That axis looks really great. I am curious what brand form you used? and if you used synchron-eye capsules, and if you tanned it yourself? if yo don't mind me askin?
Aloha,

Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Howzit Andy, I used a mckenzie form on it and did the eyes with clay, I tried the synchron capsules once and didnt like them. They dont give you the detail and expression you can get with clay, used them to see if it was faster and it was but I wasnt satisfied with the outcome.I also used a Axis form from Dan Chase once and didnt like it either, and yes I do all the tanning myself. I have done alot of hog mounts for some of your extended ohana here on Kauai , next time your back on island look me up and we can talk story maybe you can hook me up on a great alaskan hunt or even hook me up with some life size critters to mount up for myself. I really want to hunt caribou and have one mounted for my wall and a kudu from africa as well.

Axis mount
Howzit Ramboar,
I almost guessed that was a McKenzie form. I am curious if you have a favorite hide glue? I'll drop you a PM.

Outstanding work! That 1st pic reminds me of a buck that I "let walk" (aka got busted) this past Feb. On Lanai
Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Mahalo's for the good comments guys. Babooze that must of been tough to see that animal walk,I am just getting in to archery and loving it. I have yet to stick an animal but am enjoying any minute of it. I have a few friends flying out to Lanai tomorrow to do the private archery hunt for a few days, who knows I may just get more Axis to mount.

Aloha Ramboar
From what the pictures say, that is an impressive mount, the fines look exceptional. Well done!! Is it just me or have you noticed that bucks off of Molokai have much longer A,Bs than the available forms out there.
Again VERY nicely done!

Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Maukakane1, I have also used mule deer forms for Axis and you cant tell the difference and yes it is difficult to find a properly sized mannikin for those Axis, lots of alterations.
bigislandhunter, thanks for the comments. I really am thinking of doing it on the side but still want to get my GE tax license so I could advertise. I dont think kauai would have enough clients to keep it a steady part time job.

Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Koa Boa ,coombs makes very nice forms and so does Jetz but If you notice the neck measurements are in the 20's molded off of reference from those big Texas Axis,I have not gotten any Axis with necks bigger than 19 1/2 hopefully one day soon though maybe one in the rut would fit.

Re: Maui Axis pau mount.
Howzit Ramboar,
Yeah I hear you on the neck measurements and shaving the mannikin can be time consuming as well. I got a buck with almost a 25 inch neck and had to use a Mule Deer mannikin LOL! Right on though good lookin mount and goodluck in your future taxidermy endeavor's you will go far.
