You will be able to get a solid skate for that money. You get what you pay for, but only you know how often you play. If you're only looking at 1-2 times a week, $175 - 225 would work. Any more and you'd be smart to tend toward the $300 models so you're getting something that'll take a beating.

As far as sizing, each brand sizes just a little bit differently. I'd really have to recommend going to a decent hockey store, which might not be possible depending upon where you live, but then you know you'll be getting an accurate fit, you won't have to pay for shipping, and often you'll get your first sharpening and/or thermal fit for free. If its not possible, just about every online hockey retailer has a sizing guide. Follow what they have EXACTLY. Go to a shoe store and get a good and accurate sizing from your foot, and always give yourself just the slightest bit of spare room, otherwise you're going to smash your feet in the toebox, and that won't be comfortable. You may want to cheat and see if a wide width is available just to compare the feel of each skate. I don't have a particularly wide foot, but when I got my CCMs, the wide just fit better - the regular width skate had a "bump" on the outside towards the center that just didn't feel right.
