What's your bow shooting range?
Just curious as to what is the longest yardage you feel comfortable making a kill shot? What's your "sweet spot" yardage. Also what do you guys like to set your pins at?

Sweet Spot is top pin 25 yards. My pins are set @ 25,30,40,50,60 since I like to shoot 3-d for fun. But when I am hunting I like to keep my shots TOP PIN

20,30,40,50,60,80. Working on a new setup so I'll be removing the 80. Harvested game at 80 but the conditions have to be damn near perfect for the shot. I figure at that range I might as well use a gun!
At 20-50 yds the shot is natural with no "thinking" of it. Beyond that my mind begins to do the small calculating checks we all tend to do from time to time so I would consider that as a little less comfortable or natural than 50 yds and below. Anyways have a great Memorial Day weekend!!

Anywhere from 5-40 yards is my sweet spot. Beyond that I tend to over think the shot. I might take a shot past 50 but the conditions would have to be perfect (animal is relaxed and unaware, no wind, solid stance etc.). At the range I shoot 80-100 for laughs and small bets with friends.
Re: What's your bow shooting range?
Just curious...how small of an area can you hit at the longer yardages? Having trouble with my broadheads flying all over a cube target at 15-20 yards....back to the learning curve on bow tuning Target tips group sometimes tightly at these yardages...but still got a lot of practice, learning and tuning.

40 Yards
The square is 6X6
Further than this my arrows space out considerably!

I have my pins set at 20,30,40,50,60. I rarely shoot past 50 yards only when I feel comfortable. I would never shoot past 60 even if it was a beast cause that in my opinion is not archery. Past 60 is handgun and rifle, The whole reason I use bow is that I like to get up close and personal with the animal...not launch and hope for the best

Re: What's your bow shooting range?
When I used a five pin sight, my set-up was 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and I was comfortble out to 50. Recently I put on a G-5 Optix with 3 fixed pins at 20, 30, and 40, and a floating pin that I can dial down to 73 yards. I'm still getting practice in at those longer ranges but I am pretty confident I can get a clean shot out to 60. With the floating pin, I can dial it in almost to the exact yardage. Further than that, I'm not taking the shot unless everything is just right. The more I shoot past 50 yards, the more important form and a clean release becomes. The key is practice, practice, practice, so that when the critter is standing in front of you, you can make a clean shot. They deserve the best shot we can make.
Mrmahi, I'm down with a tweaked back at the moment, but lets get together and shoot a bit...maybe I can help you tighten your groups.

MauiRhino Out with the back too? Sorry to hear that! I would like to take you up on the offer whenever your back is better. Get well...I know what you are going through.
Just rutuned the bow today...took off the string and found a bolt loose on the cam. also took a close look at the broadheads...put the arrows on my fishing rod wrapper, used a fly tying vise to hold a pointed sawsall blade stationary to the tip of the arrow. Rotated the arrows and found at least one culprit in the broadhead crazy flight mystery; all but three arrows had the inserts installed a bit off center. Some wobbled like heck when rotated. Did not affect the target tips as much, but when a broadhead is attatched it is a different story.
Aloha

Re: What's your bow shooting range?
When I shot bow I was comfortable out to a 100 yds took some small game at this range After awhile we wouldnt shoot at less than 50 yds unless we shot "Circles" to much humbug replacing the nocks, fletching and arrows if we shot the same target. My "sweet spot" was as point blank as possible da closer da betta I shot longbow and recurve never have used sight pins before even on a couple compounds I shot was always instictive just felt more natural and comfortable to me.
Really wanna get back into archery really miss it alot.
Goodluck and Happy Huntin to all of you!!!
